This I found funny but strange....
'PayPal wrote to a woman who had died of cancer saying her death had breached its rules and that it might take legal action as a consequence.

The firm has since acknowledged that the letter was "insensitive", apologised to her widower, and begun an inquiry into how it came to be sent.

The matter came to light after her bereaved husband contacted the BBC.

He said he wanted to make other organisations aware how distressing automated messages could be.'

So remember kids- don't die before closing your PayPal account.

Or at least give them 30 days notice.

And have all the paperwork in order to obtain any funds they are holding. (True story ... that to litigate with PP for dead sister-in-law's fairly substantial balance in processing her estate.)

I've always found PP extremely easy and pleasant to deal with. I've used their business services for about 16 years.

Yes, but you haven't gone and died on them yet, have you.

Not sure how I should answer that one.

If you're not sure how to answer that, dealing with PayPal may be the least of your problems right now. :)

Guess you missed the point. PP said there was a type of bug so it wasn't related to the person being dead, it was an automated response that was triggered by some other metric.

I thought the timing of this [cracked.com] was pretty funny.

I thinks it's ridiculous. Everyone jumping on it like there's something there.

Those on the outside see it one way, those on the inside will see it differently. Overall, glitch or bug or human error, it is funny in part, and sad in another.

Pretty sure there's been a number of face palms at PP HQ and somebody got chewed out for letting this one get out! In any event PP wrote off the "balance" as a result of this, so there is a cost of doing business that's not smart from the get go.
