On my site, I currently accept 2CO and paypal payments and probably 70% choose 2CO. But I'm losing patience with their sledgehammer policy on fraudulent purchases and this is costing me too much money. The few customers I have managed to convince to get in touch with 2CO have then had their CC accepted but most of those refused are lost for ever and mainly because my site sells often to teachers who are living abroad so the billing address and IP don't match.
Is there any point switching to another CC processor or would it be exactly the same story elsewhere?
I think of the 20 or so transactions that 2CO have rejected, after mailing all of the affected people, I would say maybe one of them was authentically fraudulent.
So I have lost 19 people because 2CO seem to have a Google-type "one size fits all" algo which point blank rejects any transaction where the billing and IP don't match. Are there any others that allow you to decide? With similar % that 2CO offer (5.5% plus 45c)
They may have changed that policy though.. but it was enough to get us to stop using them on our one site. Best move we made.

Do you show 2CO as your "credit card" option? You could let your customers know that they can pay with a credit card through PayPal without creating an account. (You should be able to offer PayPal Account Optional since you are in Italy, unless you are using PayPal Subscriptions.)
Your customers who select the PayPal option, and do not have a PayPal account, should see the option to pay by credit card on the first page of their PayPal checkout.
...just my input on 2CO. I would get anybody else to process my payments if I were you.

Then there was there flea ridden ATM card, charged me $75 for it only to find it wasnt in theri database so couldnt use, corrected this and then they stopped using it...
what other payment processors do you now use instead of 2CO and how are they better?
I suppose I should be grateful that 2CO are "looking out for my best interests" but they have trashed many legit sales and that costs me money, obviously.
I don't want to fork out another 50-100 bucks to set up with someone else - just to have the same problems all over again. As I said in OP, my site users are often living and working abroad so the whole IP/address difference crops up pretty often.
I've also had quite a few abandoned carts and don't know if that is 2CO's fault or the fault of my users being tyre kickers - "what happens if I press this button?" type of thing.
so any solid recommendations would be appreciated but only if people have experience and know they are materially better than 2CO. Thanks in advance.
Warned me chargebacks could go up, but I said, as it was site access I was selling, I wasn't THAT bothered about that.
I'll see if that makes any difference. I presume there's a whole list of factors they judge a fraudulent transaction on - IP/billing differences being only one of them. But it's the one I've lost out on most of the time.
WorldPay
Metacharge
Chronopay
MultiCards
Ogone
These are all in Europe, which makes it easier to contact them because there is no time difference.
Rates are between 4%-6%, depending on who you choose.
My personal favorite is MultiCards, but that's just me.
You will probably get a better set up fee if you contact their sales department.
