Have the Olympic games had an effect on your sales?

I normally avoid this sort of thread but this got me curious.

A client of mine noticed a downturn in their normally strong sales at this time of the year. This client sells products to users that like to be outdoors and active. The drop in their sales coincided with the start of the Olympic games. This got me to wondering. Is there a correlation between those who watch the Olympics and my client's target customer? I can't make a direct connection because their products aren't sports related but I surmize some of people who like the Olympics (patriotic, outdoorsy) also like my client's products. Completely conjecture. But for those of you in the trenches - what have you seen?

I'm guessing sales of sleeping pills are way off :)

Seriously, my TV (which I rarely watch) gets several hundred channels of entertainment. Maybe 20 at a time are sports related. Doubt some additional curling and luge sledding are changing shopping habits much.

Judging from the lack of responses I'd say you're right! :)

There's another thread on this subject going on and it isn't getting a ton of posts either.

The Olympics themselves are barely getting a bronze medal in ratings. What's sad is the drivel that's killing the games on TV: such as American Idol!
