I searched for this answer but I could not find it.
On amazon, the referral fee is based on how your product is priced, with that being said here is a theoretical situation:

I sell a vacuum cleaner for 400 dollars, and have to pay a 14 dollar referral fee, now the base 1 dollar fee starts increasing at vacuum cleaners $40 dollars and higher, so I set my base price to 40 dollars, and set my sale price to $400. So now I'm paying a 1 dollar fee instead of a 14 dollar fee. But wait! theres more, you can set your MSRP recommended price to $450 and on the product page it will say you save $50 as a "sale".

I have tested this and it is possible, but I'm not sure if its allowed and don't want to get my account suspended or anything. Sorry if this is common knowledge I'm new to the amazon eCommerce business.
