Is Paypal only ok for a new site?

Hi. New to the forum (first post). Hope this hasn't been beaten to death but I had a question on payment options. I have started a new site and only offer paypal. My tech says that is fine and I can worry about adding Stripe and credit card functionality later (no reason to incur the extra cost now since I'm brand new). I just worry that I'm losing potential customers when they see that paypal is my only payment method. My products range in price from $50 to $2500, with an average of about $500-$1000 if that matters. Would love any feedback. Thank you

You have to start some place. Paypal is not a bad place to start, though there is some (SOME) buyer reluctance. Not terrible, but it is there (about 10%).

Develop your business until it makes sense to move to the next level.

Stripe is free, except for processing charges.

But doesn't Stripe require an SSL cert. which costs money. Sorry...totally new to this stuff...the learning curve is steep :)

Yes it does, but the buyers do not leave your site like they do with PayPal.

SSLs cost anywhere from $4 to $40 a year for sites that do not process credit card payments through their own Merchant Account such as you would have with Authorize.net for example. The SSL for PayPal needs to be strong, but if you do not collect customer's payment details on your site you do not need the most expensive SSL certificate.

Details of requirements are usually found at the processing site, that's where I would try to learn what you need.

I'd add at least few payment method, even though PayPal is mostly used of course.
