I have been a developer for a few years but ecommerce is new to me. At least in the sense ef setting up a complete store.
Basically, I will be starting an online store with a partner of mine. We will be selling equipment and products ranging from $20 - $10,000 and weighing up to a hundred pounds for shipping. We will have about 200 products in total initially and truth be told, it's really going to be an odd hobby since we both work fulltime. I'm just looking for the experience to be able to build it and play with the outcome. He's going to manage the business side of it.
That said, I've been researching all over the place but I'm looking for a solution that will allow me to sell in American funds but ship from Canada.
Is this a big deal? I was looking at cactusshop but have heard that the tax system needs to be completely rewritten for Canada?!?
Any suggestions? I'd like a boxed solution if possible as I can customize and modify it as need be... Looking for a good place to start though. I'm really kindof lost on this one
I can't recommend a boxed solution for e-commerce as I have only used custom developed apps.
I don't want to discourage you but you'll need to find a permanent US based solution if you want to retire rich. Not today, but someday.
That is correct, if you are shipping product out of Canada into the US, you will not have to charge the federal GST or provincial sales tax.
Would you be able to elaborate why this is the case? I'm already dealing with brokerage issues and other nasty stuff...
