Not-for-profit group of several widget collectors; IE blue widgets, red widgets, etc. A 501(c3) corp with US and state not-for-profit registration. A first time direct fund generator for a group that had previously only funnelled private/government grants to the various member groups. Right now a whopping 7 products. Previous word of mouth sales levels of a few items a month to a once a year high of 15 items. Looking to grow this with our WordPress based e-commerce page that we've just configured.

What do we need to have as to individual (wearable) product descriptions? (USA sales only for now but might add Euro later). Material composition is obvious but does country of origin come into play? Several items might come from one vendor and others are one offs. Wash and care instructions?

Any extra insurance needed beyond a minimal corporation coverage? Licenses, permits, registrations at state or federal level? Local level is a slam dunk as our yearly event makes all their merchants cash registers go ding-ding-ding!

Anything else I've not mentioned yet? Site has in the contact info the full USPS friendly mailing address, phone and an email address.

Using the merchant payment service everyone start out with. Some of these guys are senior level penny pinchers so there is a need for a payment service that has no monthly fee with lower % and transaction costs.

Basic questions to you all I'm sure but to me a web geek it's a blank page....

TIA

"Imported" sounds better than "Made in China".
"Made in USA" sounds better than "Made by illegal immigrants in a sweatshop."
Pick your poison.

Wash and care instructions?

Only if it will affect the buyer's decision. Better no purchase than an immediate return. "Dry Clean Only" will make them think twice about a T-shirt; if it's a silk scarf people expect it.

A good place to start for labeling requirements [web.ita.doc.gov].

<added>Plus, for something like this with all its in and outs I think you need some solid professional advice.</added>

Thanks much for that very interesting link. It is my hope to convince them that they need advice beyond what I can research.

I probably should have mentioned that all of their products has been imported (if not of USA origin) by others.

They have contracted out the application of the widget name on the items and then resell them.
