Hesitating About Replacing Adsense With Donations

Hello,

Over the last month I have been thinking of replacing adsense with donations.

Several people have contacted saying that they would want to donate to my site, but I refused because I have advertisement on it.

The main benefits that the donation method would give me is:

More freedom.

No worries about Google's TOS. No worries about being politically correct. More freedom of speech.

However, I am not sure I will make as much money and since I am not very rich I cannot afford to experiment as much.

Has any of you been in a similar situation?

Some payment processors can be a bit iffy about processing donations if you are not legally registered as a charity.

If you have a site that attracts the sort of readers who want to support you then I have found that becoming a Amazon affiliate is more effective. Just remind them to support the site by using your link when they shop at Amazon.

There's a reason that many people call AdSense "webmaster welfare"...

Personally I'd just add the donation link now and see how it works out. It could be better or worse than what you're doing now.

Bitcoin is perhaps an ideal platform for this type of thing. There is a lot of infrastructure springing up around micro-tipping in Bitcoin. Facebook has recently entered the fray.
