My Host Site Is HAcked Please Help!

Hi,

I was to launch My ecommerce site by this weekend. to my horror, when i was trying to log into my site i wasnt able to get my page. hence i tried to visit the host forum and the message recieved when i visited the site just shocked me. i was developing my site using zencart. can anyone help me and tell me how to get my data.
as it was still in development stage there was no backup.
Please Help

Ouch ouch ouch.

There is nothing that you can do. Contact your host, immediately. You will need to check your on-site files. If there are any passwords/pass-phrases contained in those files, CHANGE THEM!

The following is meant kindly:- learn the lesson, always keep off-site backups.

Interrogate your hosts closely about their security. You intend to run ecommerce from their facility. Think carefully for the sake of your future customers, let alone your own reputation.

Good luck with your future venture and, paradoxically, perhaps the timing of this is actually good for you.

What kind of message was it?

Your host should backup all sites every day. You need to tell us lots more. Have you tried to reach your host?

all means to contact my host are lost.
the message recieved on host site was : Hacked by : (email address)
i used to contact the host from the site forum but now there is no site , no site forum , nothing....
can any one tell me how to safeguard my site.
i will definitely not use that paticular host for my website.
as this is my new venture and i am starting without any investment i am / will be using free webhost.
also i think i am comfortable with zencart.
i will definitely be making my back up from now on..

Was your site hacked or theirs? Are you using a free web hosting provider?

The Site Of My Host Is hacked and not mine. but i think all the data have been erased and now i am unable to log to my site.

First off, my condolences. I'm very sorry. I would like to emphasize that I would not recommend that you use a free host for an ecommerce site. IF you are going to sell something, you should invest a little $ to get good solid service and security. You owe it to your customers.

Your host should backup all sites every day

not much help when a server gets hacked - the latest backup is likely to be the hacked version of server content - even if it's the old version, if the hacker got in through a flaw in software (phpbb or whatever) that flaw will still be there when the server is restored

always keep your own backup data - don't overwrite older backups
check all software you use (like phpbb) is up to date
use a good host, even if it costs you money

Get in contact with others in like position. I have many sites bookmarked that use our same cart and host. If you don't know any, use Google to find them. Often their sites will include a phrase (often mandatory) such as "hosted by FreeJunkHost, or the like.

Is it possible that your "free" host made off with your site?

We use a fairly expensive cart and a very expensive host... Best money we could spend. Can get thru to tech support within minutes, 24/7.
