It seems like the shipping business is really getting out of control. UPS has become terrible in my area. The drivers are so bad, I honestly looked it up to see if they had busted the union. Nope... Still well paid teamsters. We get a different guy every day who always seem like they just started. Absolutely refuse to leave anything anymore, and since they come past 7, we're gone. Three times in the last 6 months, they walked up to the building, but took the package back with them, because the people had left the unit number off. Even though the name for us is in clear view, right next to the door. Way too much work to actually read the name and hit the buzzer I guess. I started ordering one material from a vendor three years ago. I get the same quantity each order. When I started, UPS was $80 to ship it. It has gone up ever since. The last time I ordered 6 months ago, it had gone to $130. Then this time we ordered, it was $200. I thought the seller was trying to stick it to me, but I added up the boxes and ran it, and sure enough... $200. A $70 increase in 6 months. Then when they delivered it, I go out to meet the guy, just in time to see him drop the box worth hundreds of dollars, off his shoulder from 5 feet up, and slam it down on the concrete. Then the latest with USPS... I've noticed that they have often stopped scanning stuff at all on my end. Many things wouldn't get scanned until they were all the way to the destination. At the same time, it became impossible to print out scan sheets. So there was no way to get stuff scanned in many cases. Then one item disappeared one day. I go to file a claim and because it was one of the items that never got scanned at the start, they refused to honor the claim. Gee, that's convenient... So you 'accidentally' don't scan tons of stuff, and then have a great excuse for not paying claims, because there's no way to prove it was ever sent. Nice. So watch out for that one.
I'm wondering what it will be like another 5 years from now... They'll probably charge $500 a package, and just launch it out of a canon onto your roof as they drive by.
