Good to show past customer companies, or no?

I do business with some pretty big companies... various DOD contractors and such. I'm wondering what people think about listing those companies on your site, for promotional purposes. Good thing? Maybe not good for some reason? Does it seem like a sort of, lame thing to do? And what are the ramifications of doing it without permission?

In part it depends on what business you are in.

Digressing slightly you may feel a desire to sex up those listings. I see musicians do this regularly. Very amusing when they say that they have played a particularly prestigious venue. It may look good to Joe Public but those of us in the business all know that the reference was to the Tuesday night open mic session in the bar not to a booking in the concert hall.

"Past customer companies"

It begs the question of why they no longer work with you OR why you no longer work with them.

imo, it is best to leave that alone.

I recently played at the O2 Arena in Greenwich.

It was on a Friday.

Sure, it was an open mic in one of the bars.

But it was more intimate.

Well, I just say 'past' because I'm talking about the past. That doesn't mean they won't make purchases ever again. Most do make repeat purchases. Listing them would be more for the benefit of potentially getting the guys that haven't used us before, or private individuals.
