Anybody have any information on what the average conversion rate would be on high dollar online transactions? I've seen many references on the web at 2% for an average ecommerce site. While realizing average is a broad segment with every website being different, I'd like to get a better idea where we stand.

Any guesstimates or actual sources for this type of information?

Thanks

It really depends. Are visitors in "buy" or "browse" or "compare" mode when they get to your site?

I think for niche sites 2% is low. The big sites (Amazon) that get a lot of "browse" and "compare" traffic are what bring the actual "released to the public" numbers down.

I don't have any numbers to help you but I would suggest you run some analytics to find out what visitors are doing on your site and where you can improve. Knowing that you get 8% when the average is 2% doesn't mean there aren't areas of your site that could be improved to get you up to 10 or 12% and that's where analytics come into play.

Shop.org members average something like 1.8% if memory serves.

There is quite a bit of variance among specific industries though. Catalog retailers are over 6% conversion at the top and at the bottom are electronics retailers with something like 1.1%.

I run Google AdWords for my consumer electronics (with stiff competition and price-cutting) website. The average position for my major keywords is around 3-5, conversion rate is around 4% to 6%. What do you guys tihink of it? I just want to improve my conversion rate a little more? Any suggestion?

I have a big tip for you: shell out the money and buy the marketingsherpa report called landing page handbook. Its gold for increasing conversions.
