Is X-Cart the best ecommerce shopping cart.?

Any opinions on what the best opensource shopping cart software is.

Looking for some help determining what the best ecommerce shopping cart currently available is.

I have heard some good things about x-cart. Are there any users here that currently use it for their websites..?

Also curious, does WordPress offer any customizable shopping cart options for an ecommerce site..?

I'd really appreciate any advice :)

I don't think that there is such a thing as the best "shopping cart" because it really depends on your website, your product type, delivery method, language, currency, taxes etc. In this respect some may be over complicated because they try to include all options. Some are just plain ugly and difficult to theme.

WordPress is a CMS and there are many different brands of CMS available and they all have add-on modules and extensions to cater for shopping carts. There are even some CMS that are essentially a shopping cart like Magento.

Not knowing what your product and vending terms are, no-one else can properly advise you. So try them and spend some time at it because once it's installed and populated with your products, you will be married to it.

Welcome to WebmasterWorld Bootstrapper,

X-Cart is not THE best cart. There is no one cart that is the best solution. It really depends upon what you need for functionality and for your tolerance/desire for customization and control.

Re: WordPress eComm, yes there are several plugins/solutions. Ecommerce Templates, FoxyPress, GetShopped. More here [google.com].

x cart is good; however, for me the thing that makes it not that great is that it's too difficult to update the software to newer versions. To do so requires a tremendous amount of work and code changes. It would be awesome if they had an easy update feature like wordpress does.
