Taking your business to the next level

Hi,
We run a small ecommerce site which is growing but at a rather slow pace. I have been following this forum for a while and have always wanted to ask people who were able to grow their businesses from ‘garage’ to ‘warehouse’ level - what was it that they believe was the key to success.

Increasing inventory? Marketing ? Cut-throat prices?

Please share your story how you took your business to the next level (next level=you don’t do everything yourself anymore but can afford to hire people)

4. open multiple sites (some with same products, different pricing model some with all new niche)

We went from basement with just wife and brother inlaw working it to 15k sqft warehouse, retail store with total of 10 employees.

This growth has been over almost 7 years. 2 years in basement, built a pole building around 5k square feet and spend 3 in there and then went the lease route now.

In order to take your business to the next level, you need to make your eCommerce site more popular. In order to achieve this, you need to spend some time on proper SEO techniques. I have mentioned some techniques below for your understanding:

1) Article writing - Write good quality articles using some of the highly used keywords. These will help people get more interested about your site and thus increase your visitors and buyers. Keywords can be searched using Google Adwords.

2) Create backlinks - This can be achieved by social bookmarking and forum posts. Creating backlinks will help you get more visitors to your site, which will eventually enhance the size of your business.

3) Social networking - Open fan pages for your site on various social networking sites, like Facebook and Twitter. Just ensure that you are active on such sites or else this will not help your cause.

Is asking for backlinks still relevant today? I have stop asking for backlinks since Panda and Penguin came along. Perhaps I should continue my backlink campaign.
