Identifying Northern Ireland address

I am working on my own ecommerce system and I need to identify Northern Ireland addresses.

For Northern Ireland, the country is going to be UK, so I cannot check on the country to determine Northern Ireland addreses.

I decided to use City as a way to differentiate between NI and UK addresses, but ran into a problem where some NS citites had the same name as UK.

So any idea what I can do?

Try using post codes.

There are only a limited number for Northern Ireland. As in BT23 4XX

What about using postcodes? NI postcodes have the same format as the rest of the UK but will start with different letters.

Yes, all Northern Irish postcodes start 'BT.....'

Interestingly, I tried to search for 'norther ireland post codes' in google, but did not get any usefull info.

Can you confirm that all Norther Ireland post codes start with BT?

Is 'BT' also used as a post code in United Kingdom?

BT = Nothern Ireland only :)

Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom.

I'm guessing you need to know due to increased postal costs if using a courier, so you may also need to search for Isle of Wight, Isle of Man, Scottish Highlands, Isles of Scilly, and Channel Islands postcodes, as these will incur additional charges.

Of course I might be way off the mark.

HS, IV, KW, ZE - Scottish Highlands
BT - Northern Ireland
IM - Isle of Mann
TR21 To 25 - Isles of Scilly
JE - Jersey
GY - Guernsey
PO30 To 41 - Isle of Wight

Southern Ireland do not have postcodes apart from Dublin that has area codes D1 to D12 (I think).

Note that this is what my courier considers the Scottish Highlands to be, I think other couriers might differ.

I hope this is correct, please let me know if I've missed anything.
