LiteCommerce VS X-Cart

Does anyone have any experience using litecommerce and then switching to X-cart or vice versa. I am trying to decide which version to purchase. With litecommerce most of the features i will have to add on if I want them later, and x-cart seems to have most everything built in. Price isn't a factor, I want the best long term solution.

I have heard litecommerce runs smoother and is easier to add too because the code is OO. One of the add-ons I will have to get right away with litecommerce is bulk shopping which will allow me to place a number of items of a certain category on one page to let the user select qty and add to cart quickly, I am not sure if this is available off the shelf with x-cart. I am back and forth on email with there sales rep waiting to hear back.

Any feedback or experiences would be appreciated.

Thanks

A

X-Cart has my vote, I've been using it since version 1.3. The code base takes some getting used to but once you do its fairly easy to extend its features.

I played with LiteCommerce a bit but have so far gone with X-Cart for all of my client projects. The reason has largely been the ease of self-maintenance. LiteCommerce uses a system that works, but it's a bit hard for some of my clients to understand. They aren't the most savvy when it comes to using web-based tools.

My take on it, from a purely scalable point of view - and without benefit of actually implementing a LiteCommerce install, is that it is great for smaller stores where you want the ability to work with the code and keep it lite and quick. X-Cart is a template driven db engine and the code is more complex. It requires a bit more awareness of how the system works and what pieces are involved.

Lorax,
Thanks for the insight. I am going to use LiteCommerce for this project primarily for the bulk shopping Add On. I dont see this feature in X-Cart, and sales confirmed it. Although in the future I think X-Cart will suit my needs for other projects.

Good luck with it. Give us a report here later after you've had a chance to work with it. I and I'm sure others, would be interested in what you learn.

Hi Everyone - I'm new here.

I am currently saving up for X-cart myself. I, too, have compared and contract Litecommerce vs X-cart. Pesonally, by the time I add in all the add-ons I would need for my future store, I would end up spending the $199 (and I think a lil more) and just might as well buy the x-cart.

I am currently working on a client's store, uploading products for the nearing holiday season, so I am fairly familiar with x-cart...though I still have a lot to learn and thanks to my neighbor (whom I'm working through) - I'll be quite ready when I acquire my own copy of x-cart.

I guess, and this is only my opinion, if you think you might be upgrading to x-cart in the future, get it now. From what I understand, it can be a pain transferring your database from one to another. *shrugs*.

I just suggest when you look for shopping cart you should also keep priority that particular cart should be SE friendly too as well the specific features you are looking for.
