The customers complete the checkout process in my shop and then they get a link to Paypal to make their payment. In addition the link to make the payment is included in the confirmation email they get for the order.
About 20-30% of the users do not complete their payment with Paypal after they have completed the order.
If they have not payed after two days they get an automatical email that reminds them to make their payment. I also offer to change the payment method to bank transfer, cash on delivery or direct debit.
Most of them switch to a different payment option then. I have spoken to a few customers and the main reason they did not complete their payment were confusing instructions on the Paypal "Checkout" page.
Unfortunately the Paypal "Checkout" page in terms of usability is a real mess.
Why does it change languages when a new country is selected? Why do I even submit a language code when I redirect my customers to Paypal?
If anyone at Paypal is reading this:
What on earth makes you think that just because I am located in Spain right now I can understand Spanish? And if you believe it or not Switzerland is bilingual! Many people only speak french there!
And on the Checkout Page it says:
"We need your bank account information to ensure that it matches the transaction information for the paid item."
Can anyone explain to me what this sentence means? What transaction information. And what bank account information if I want to pay with credit card.
And why do you hide the selection field for the "Payment type" down there between Last Name and Address1? THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT SELECTION THE CUSTOMER HAS TO MAKE ON THIS DAMNED PAGE! And this is the last place the customer is expecting it, especially when all adress fields are already filled out because I have submitted the data from my online shop.
And why do you keep ignoring the dozens of posts in the Paypal developer forum from dozens of people who have told you all that before.
And why on earth do I still offer Paypal instead of getting a merchant account with Visa or Mastercard directly.
(Sorry about this little rant but I'm already feeling better.)
