Can you prevent a customer from "sharing" your ebook online?

For ebook sellers, how do you prevent your customers from giving out your ebook for free? posting it online? emailing it to friends? I'm assuming we're talking pdf/epubs here. That would seem to be the biggest concern, protecting those files.

You would need some way to match the file to a particular instance of a reader. I can't think of a way to do it with a PDF.

Check out the Google Books Partner Program. They host your ebook for you, and protect the contents using Adobe DRM. Your customers would unlock the ebook using Adobe Digital Editions.
You can sell your ebook on your own website, or through the Google eBookstore.
