Shopping Cart

Does anyone know of a good shopping cart for a static site.

OK got several sites that need a shopping cart. They already exist and they are static. I don't want to have to totally rebuild them into a dynamic system. Does anyone know of a good system that is Dreamweaver compatible that can go into a static site.

By static, do you mean the web site can only display static pages? Have you considered using remotely hosting shopping carts like Mal's, 2Checkout, or CCNow? If so, I suggest looking at Mal's eCommerce.

If your site can run PHP scripts, I found a script on HotScripts called phpCart. Same concept as Mal's, but the script is run locally. You would need to server secure pages if you went with a local solution.

By static I just mean the sites are strickly HTML and Java. The server can run PHP and most other Dynamic platforms. I just haven't gotten into them yet.

I love Paypal too. We are using them as a temporary cart and the WebAssist DW MX plugin. I just wish you could add more options to the products and real shipping calculation.

There's a free JavaScript cart available from NOP Design - product is called NOPcart. It does all the basic functions but if you know JavaScript you can probably customise as well. Also now has options for integrating with three PSPs (WorldPay, Authorize.net, and LinkNet).

I have used web store from extopia.com and also agora.cgi( a derivative of web store). Both are well documented and free with large communities supporting mods. The only thing about them is that they both use session ids in url (which can be overcome with mod_rewrite) unless you use cookies. Off the shelf they are not search engine friendly but they can be made to work well for static sites adding a cart.

I like Mal's, and there's a free PHP cart that works with it as an extra with a reasonably priced paid version that has more features. Some around have had good results with Americart, which is a static solution.

Miva isn't search engine friendly in its native state, but there are multiple extra modules available, including one that's for pages to appear static. It also has capability for affiliate programs and a feature a lot of them lack, which is keeping inventory, which can be an important factor with items of limited quantity or that can easily run out.

There are hosts that come with Miva included for about $40-50 a month, and it's possible that those can be made static with mod_rewrite.

Westhost has just started offering MIVA on all its accounts, but unfortunately the version on the cheaper ones will only work with Paypal. So if you can live with the dreadful Westhost non-support you can have full MIVA for as little as $20/mo.. MIVA also sticks you up for extras - for example you cannot send a confirmatory email without having a $20 a month MIVA mail account?

Me thinks you need to read the terms again.

The fee from Miva is for managing a bulk email system through them, where customers that set up accounts in your store have their email addys added to a list that you manage through your site and Miva's servers.

Big waste of money IMHO but some people go for it.
