Are microdata/microformats currently used in any way for a typical online store besides review/price/availability rich snippets for product pages?

BTW, can schema.org microdata only be used with HTML5?

Using it for Reviews for the past 10 months, and it hasn't mattered.

Google asked for microformat-enabled sites a year ago, I submitted mine, and it had zero effect. Waste of my time.
