Hi guys,

I have been using zen-cart for a couple of years and am looking to set up a new site. Zen-cart has been ok but I'm intrested in looking at alternatives. I know there is a tonne of options and I've looked at quite a few different options.

My question is this.

-What would you say if the most popular open source shopping cart software at the moment?

I've heard Magento's free version is popular. However, I found that the free and low cost (such as x-cart) just don't cut it compared to a subscription service such as Volusion or Big Commerce. We started out with OsCommerce, used Zen-Cart and another open source one (I cannot remember it right now) as well as inexpensive purchased software such as X-cart and Cherrycart or something like that. They all turned out to be buggy, with little support, etc, needed to fully support a commercial operation.

I have a MS-CIS and was a software developer for years before opening an online retail business but I found the amount of time I had to spend fixing things and adding features that were included in most commercial carts was just costing me too much money. We switched to a commercial app a couple of months ago and the support alone is worth the monthly cost.

Can I ask what you mean by:

Zen-cart has been ok but I'm interested in looking at alternatives.

If you can tell us the reasons that you DON'T like it, we can probably come up with some shopping carts that you will like.
