How to deal with multiple location drop ship orders?

Does anyone know a cart that will accomodate for a drop ship business model? In other words, one that lets each item be specific to a zip code which gets factored into the shipping charges?

In general, does anyone have any advice about how to deal with the fact that if a customer orders several different items, and they are being drop shipped from several different places, they will be charged shipping charges on each which is likely to make them mad and not order?

Just charge them what the shipping cost is from your location to their location. If you lose money on that, then you have to pad the pricing on the products. I have multiple drop ship locations, but there would be no way put a location to a product because the drop ship companies sometimes have 3 or more locations and the product could come from either one of them on top of which company I choose to drop ship from.

I have a site in which we deal with around 12 different sources that drop ship our products all over the country. I figure on an average shipping cost for each item then build it right into the price and advertise FREE DELIVERY.

You will spend a bit more on shipping some products but then make it up on others. The great benefit is that it really simplifies the shipping charges and the customer thinks they are getting a bargain by not having to pay shipping fees.

I believe the next version of AspDotNetStorefront has support for drop shipping and multiple ship-to addresses. Going to be released in the next few weeks.

There are a few carts that I know of that will let you have multiple origin zip codes. But they tend to be an all or nothing type of setup. You can try searching on "multiple origin zip", "multiple warehouses", "multiple zip code". Ideally, each zip code should be in its own box. All other products from that same zip code should go in the same box unless that item has a special option that it should ship by itself (i.e. its a big big widget). If you are working with a limited number of drop shippers, changing the origin zip code from yours to the drop shipper zip code may be sufficient.
