Hi,

I was reading over the "Why aren't they buying?" post, and Essex_boy's reply below got me thinking if you can really gauge sales conversions based on the number of daily visitors/pageviews a website receives.

[webmasterworld.com...]

Essex_boy: I find that I need at 3000 per month to ensure regular sales, ive also found that good photos of the products and slim down photo files help.

I guess it comes down to playing the numbers game; where if the higher number of daily visitors/pageviews you receive, in theory, the more orders you should receive too? However, I wonder what percentage would be the average to use in determining the number of sales you would receive based on daily visitors/pageviews? For example; could 3,000 daily visitors/pageviews bring in 30 daily orders based on 1%?

If you run your business for a while, I would guess that you could get fairly reliable information based on historical trends (like Essex_boy); however I think the bigger opportunity would be to tweak your sales process to improve the conversion rates (doing some A/B testing, monitoring where your best conversions come from and targeting more $$$ there, finding ways to make your site more relevant to your customers so the look at multiple pages or come back multiple times, etc).
