Hi,

I was just wondering to you guys get a lot of newsletter signups when customers create an account on your website?

I have a checkbox that is checked ON by default; which says customers who join the emal newsletter will receive coupons, special offers, and exclusive promotions.

However, so far every customer that has created an account on my website has checked this box OFF; is this the norm?

How can I get more customers to sign up to the email newsletter?

Thank you,

I do the same, about 30% leave the checkbox checked. Now all I have to do is write some newsletters...

I think the last one went out a 6 month ago.

My niche is consumable products - meaning the customers uses the products, after three month he has to buy new. I guess that means there is a higher interest to be informed about special offers and coupons and product information.

It depends on your products. If you sell "once in a liftime products", or products you replace only every five years people may be more reluctant to sign up.

The sites I work with do exactly the opposite. The opt in rate is like . . . 75% . . it's more of an exception that they check it off. Very few ever unsubscribe when the emails go out. These, however, are a very specific niche and not ordinary shopping, so the emails are extremely relevant to these shoppers.

Maybe it's the way it's worded? "Receive coupons, special offers, and exclusive promotions" almost translates as spam without even thinking about it (I mean, the wording is so common, that's what most people come to recognize that phrase as.) We also carry a descriptive link next to it outlining the email list policy.
