I have a campaign going now since the autumn and I average 1100% ROI.

yes, 1100%. I'm being drastically undercharged for clicks (few cents CPC leading to a site that sells products for 50-60 bucks) and feel almost guilty about it.

Almost.

As usual with these things, if only I could get 10 times the traffic, I'd be retiring by the end of next year. :)

Tell me tales of pots-of-gold-at-end-of-rainbows ad campaigns you've run.

Back in 1993 I cornered the market in the USA for a board game, no one had any in stock and could get any in, but I could.

Paid about 1c per click for a $72.00 item, conversion rate was about 20%, on about 500 clicks a day. Never worked so hard in my life....

Which is how I came to be on here....

Promoted an educational institution in 98. Total costs for running the site was about $1,000 / year. New customer spent about $500 with us. Customers gained via Website were between 10-20/month. ROI? Too much to calculate.
We took the website success to the offline world as well. For about $300 we had a poster printed featuring our #1 position in the then top SE (Altavista) for a keyphrase like "Best Widget Training in myCity". At that time the internet and search results were seen as some technology that must be right. ROI? Again too much to calculate.
Unfortunately, never been able to replicate these successes. :(

surely you've made a typo? to the best of my knowledge the PPC model was created by GoTo in around 1998

Hmm in terms of ROI my clients have had some pretty crazy weeks and months on the shopping engines, one thing that sticks to my mind is when we added a coupon (10% off orders over $150) to a client on Nextag, revenue bumped up over 100% and conversions increased by nearly 2%.

It's crazy how the little things can impact a campaign.
