Does anyone have experience selling on amazon? I have uploaded roughly 600 products to Amazon but our 1st month was rather disapointing.

I know Amazon sales have a snowball like effect once you start getting sales, rankings increase, visability increaes hence sales increases.

I have some products ranked between 1000 to 5000 which, by the looks of things are alright but many products are just buried.

Does anyone have any advise or tips on what can be done to improve sales and visability?

Currently we are looking at providing better value for money. Im not convinced throwing up tons of recycled content in better value packages will be enough.

Coming from an SEO background I try think along the lines of optimizing products titles/prices/reviews and such but there's only so much you can do.

Does anyone have any experience with Amazon's marketing services?

I don't actually sell on there, but seems like the biggest thing is review numbers. If there's a way you can hound people to make sure they leave a review, or maybe offer an incentive. Assuming you have enough confidence in the product to know it will typically get a good review. Obviously it could be a shot in the foot otherwise.

... hound people to make sure they leave a review...

I'd also check Amazon's Participation Agreement to ensure that hounding is allowed. Buyer's are allowed to set their Communication Preferences with Amazon, and I'm not sure those preferences are made available to sellers. It wouldn't be cool to hound a buyer who has specifically opted out of email communications.

We sell quite a bit on Amazon but it seems very spotty. It has been quite slow lately. In my opinion, their results are 1. Amazon selling itself first. 2. Price. 3. Ratings. You will definitely know when you are top ranked for an item. We have some items were rarely sell and then will sell 10 in a week on Amazon because we were top ranked. Also, I believe that having updated inventory - at least daily - effects the results.

Thanks for the reply, My primary responsibility with Amazon is digital content, but our physical content has been seeling rather well over the past few years.

Recently amazon started making relationships between the two types of content which is nice as the reviews rollover to the digital content, all of which are pretty good.

Im speaking with amazon about some product promotion to get the ball rolling.

It a pretty competetive market and its early days hopefully it'll start to pick up soon.
