Just curious what code people are using. I've used 'manufacturing', but I'm wondering if I should use something else. I both manufacture, but obviously, also sell those products on the internet. I could see an inappropriate code possibly being a problem at some point... For instance, like dealing with sales tax issues.

Even though I make a lot of the things I sell, I use retail.

I only have informational type websites, and I normally use 519100 [Other information services (including news syndicates & libraries, Internet publishing & broadcasting)]

You might consider 454111 [Electronic shopping] or 454113 [Mail-order houses]

You would think they'd just have 'eCommerce'. But of curse, that would actually make sense.

I'm not a tax expert, but seems like a potential problem with 'retail' would be they'd think you should be doing higher numbers in sales tax, based on your overall sales amount? Or I guess that's separate... I don't know.

I used 519100 last year. I assume I will this year. I'm doing some tax prep work with TurbobTax right now.

Well, sales tax is a state issue. But also, when you fill out the form to claim a percentage of your home as a business deducation, I am sure that is a headsup that you are not operating a b&m store. Plus if your business address which you have to give is the same as your home address...

I just checked my last tax form, and I used Online Retail, which is 453990.

I guess that one sounds pretty good. I would love to know how the algorithms in their computers are set to accept info like this, and how it makes a difference.
