I'm not sure if this is the right forum for sales questions. And the Marketing World is only about SE's.

I get visitors to my site. I think this is mostly because I followed Brett's 26 steps. Thanks Brett!
But how do I get them to buy my product? What are the best techniques to sell something online?

Give a good description, not just what the item looks like (they can see that) but how it works and what it actually does.

E.g Ive sold talking clocks and listed the phrases it says, listed the features of the alarm clock unit and mentioned that its back lit.

If the feature buttons are novel Ill say so.

I also try to write the description as if the item is my own personal property from a private collection.

Then I give teh dimensions.

I have a tag line allow teh customer to email me a question should they wish, theres also a standard pop up giving the delivery times etc.

Then the price.

Another useful feature of an ecommerce site is to have a search this site box, you can use this to check what people want, you can also take this information to optimise your site.

To sell someone online, you need to master conversion techniques.

IMHO, no one does it better than 2 famous brothers known as "The Conversion Gurus" (not allowed to drop names here, mods?)

Here's a hint : do a search for "conversion chronicles"

I think you should properly target your audience and on initialy stage learn the technique to get your visitors return back to your site, once they return back the chances of their conversion can be increased hopefully.
