Why would a gateway company need this much info?

I had a credit card processing company approach me about having them handle my card transactions. They quoted me a better rate, 1.5% compared to my current 2.4%.

After filling out all of the forms and giving them all of the required info, I got the login information for the online processing. It really struck me as weird, though, that they would require: Credit Card Number, Expiration Date, Amount, Address, City, Postal Code, Firstname, Lastname, CVV, State / Province.

I haven't had a lot of experience with card processing companies, as I've been with the same one for six years, and had just one before that.

I don't see any reason why they'd need all of that information, and it's making me very suspicious. If I had sought them out, it would be a different story.

Does anyone else have to provide such detail about their customers?

How would you do AVS and CVV matching WITHOUT all that information?

Looks like the American equivalent of what I enter as standard for any transaction. In the UK state/province is redundant, "name as printed on card" is captured rather than forename and surname separately and the card start date is also captured.

dickbaker do this before all the changes. Call the processor your using now tell them you have had a better offer but since you have been with them for 6 years you would like to give them a chance to keep your business. Worked for me when out of the blue I got an offer and gave mine a call. They asked me what the other one was I just told them to make me an offer as I won't disclose the oter offer. Mine came back with even a better offer and that was that.

Life in Asia, I get all of that information, but destroy the account number once the order is processed. My card processor has the account number in their database for sixty days, but no name, address, city, etc.

I do the name and address verifications by calling the bank or credit card company. Just having the CVV or using the AVS isn't enough.

I checked with the Better Business Bureau and the company is on the up and up. I'm just very careful with credit card information.

bwnbwn, I think I'll try that. Thanks.

Is the new company offering the same service as the old one? Some processors will do ALL the verification on your behalf.
