Product Info Content (Images, Description, Etc)?

Hi,

I was wondering, where do ecommerce sites get product content information (images, description, etc...) that is shown on the ecommerce site?

Are there companies that specialize in providing ecommerce sites this content info, or is this something that wholesalers/manufacturers provide you with for your site?

The photos are provided by my manufacturer/distributor.

The content - description/features/etc - my staff and I write. Unique and thorough descriptions are worth the time, for your customers and for bots.

Photos can also come from your camera and photo editing software. I place the product in a sunny location, sitting on top of a couple white paper towels, snap a pic with my iPhone, and clean-up / resize things with software.

I have to agree with the above two posters. Text and images that are unique are always going to be a strong selling point over your competitors. Just imagine who you would choose to buy from if 100 stores had the exact same product descriptions and photos from the manufacturer and then there was one store that had a unique detailed description and clear photographs.

This is going to instill much more confidence in your potential buyers. This is exactly how I think when buying online and especially on eBay - it's too easy to list something for sale using manufacturers info without actually having it in hand. Something as simple as a quick snap from a digital camera is enough to make me purchase.

Also if you list your items on sites like Google Products Search (of whatever they are calling it this week!) which I highly recommend doing then when all placed together your hand crafted photo is even more likely to stand out next to all the manufacturers ones.
