however, to cut costs i was thinking of using Netobjects Fusion & a stand alone shopping cart package.
questions:
1) anyone any experience of such a particular setup?
2) suggest a cart package thats easy to integrate.
2)can 'carts' be used with more or less any site & credit card facility eg WorldPay etc?
many thanks.
I worked with Netobject Fusion several years ago. At that time I felt it was far too confusing and created poor - and bloated - code. But I confess I haven't worked with it since.
I'm not sure I understand why you'd want to employ such a tool and tack on a catalog/cart when there are several catalog/cart packages out there and ready to go. Why reinvent the wheel? If you take some time and learn one of the more popular scripting languages like PHP, ASP, and PERL then you'll find there are scripts out there that you can customize yourself.
Alternately, there are catalog/carts with a higher order Admin area that allow you to customize the cart (to a limited degree) without having to know any script language. Obviously, they put limits on what you can do because it's very difficult to allow free form customization through a script.
Most carts do allow you to use one or more payment gateways. Do your homework before you choose one. Some carts don't provide a gateway at all and leave it up to you to build the plugin module - these are the exception but they still exist. Many of the OTS carts come with a variety of plugins available - beyond just the gateway connection. Over the past few years I've seen several of the top open source carts heading toward modularized plugins. Simply choose the functionality you want, download the module, enable it through the admin area, and then customize it to suit.
i obtained Netobjects free when i signed with i&1.
it looks pretty versatile & has own cataloque db.
however manual offers no reference regarding p/ment processing - hence my enquiry about bolting on a very basic stand alone cart.
as mentioned, i am presently using ekmpowershop.
it is really a cat/cart however they only offer several templates & if 'customise layout' with dw is attempted you cannot preview/test (in dw) as the special ekm tags required in the html need to be resident on the ekm server to work.
that means on so (updating within ekm) the original shop is over-written, possibly with lots of 'live' errors.
thanks again- rampzoid
