PayPal - Allow users to pay without account

I can't find how to enable this

I am using a PayPal Buy Now button on a site, and I can't for the life of me figure out how to get the payment screen where the user can pay by credit card.

I don't want users to have to sign up for a PayPal account.

It should look like this:

Even though I have the "PayPal Account Optional" setting enabled in my website selling preferences, my checkout page still gives me the "Create a PayPal Account or Log In" screen for checkout.

It's not going to activate properly, because it's seeing cookies for your own account. Try with another browser that doesn't have any cookies associated with your account. The first thing you should see is a link down at the bottom that says something about "click here if you don't have an account" or something like that.

I already thought of that, and even if I try it in another browser on another machine that I have never logged into PayPal with, I still get the "Create a PayPal Account or Log In" screen.

I don't think PayPal has removed the option. It's still there, I just can't get it to appear and I don't know why.

Simple question - has anyone got a PayPal checkout where their users don't need an account to pay?

Ugh... don't tell me I'm going to have to go through payPal support.

Absolutely... I have people doing it all the time. I just went to my own site on a different browser that has not been used to log in, and it gave me the card option on the left, and log-in on the right. So if anything, it has gotten easier. Before you had to click to a new page to get the card fields. I don't know... It must be some sort of bug for some people. Maybe a browser issue.

Thanks for the info. At least I know it still exists.

God, this sucks. I hate when it feels like you're the only guy on the planet with a particular dev problem.

It is there just look it is a small link that you click when adding something to the cart. It is a very easy link to miss.
You see it when after adding the item to the cart and you are taken to paypal's sign in page.

Are you in Greece? Just a guess from your user name!
If so,it could be your location that is requiring Paypal sign up.Maybe Paypal doesn't offer payment without a Paypal account and anyone with a Greek IP has to sign up first.

It's likely your code that has a problem, but you can do something simple to make sure. Just create a paypal button from your paypal account, paste the code in a blank html file and launch it with a browser. See if it works

I have been caught like this as a customer. Going to your opposition is a damn site easier than creating a redundant paypal account.

The best coding solution is to find a different processor - mine (UK) is marginally cheaper than PP and has no sign up requirements

This is sort of semi related. I noticed today, that when I click on one particular item, the PP screen comes up in a way that I have not seen before. It has the totals in a box on the left, and then two basic choices on the right... Sign in or click to use card as non-member. There is no pull down at the top to see the totals with shipping, like the normal screen. This only happens when I use my own browser. It doesn't happen when I use a cookie free browser. And it only appears to happen on this one item. So I'm not sure what's going on there.
