I was just wondering, can the functionality of a website be patentable if there is no other website that has this same functionality on the web?

Have you been to the USPTO web site, if you're in the U.S.? Once can **probably** get through a trademark on their own (I did,) but a patent will always require a lawyer. You can, however, look through the documentation there to see if you have a shot before hiring one.
