Billing Descriptor Errors, Who's To Blame

for a few months now we have been getting customer service calls from customers of a company other than ours. It was not too big of a deal, only 1 maybe 2 a week.
last week during testing i did a transaction with a personal credit card. the next day i was looking at my account and the billing descriptor had our company name but the company city & state were wrong.

has anyone ever had a problem like this?

i contacted the gateway and they thought it sounded like a merchant account issue, that was my first thought also since they are the ones that supply the descriptor to the customer's bank. I contacted the merchant account and they said that our descriptor looked fine and then i showed them a screen shot of the incorrect descriptor in my account and they have been giving us the run around since, they don't know, never heard of anything like this, must be the gateway, maybe it's identity theft, on and on.

curious if anyone here has ever heard of a problem like this.

just wanted to give an update on this. merchant account has discovered the issue, they are starting to get more complaints about it and have been working to track down the cause.
if you use authorize.net and OR rbs worldpay you should check to make sure your billing descriptor is being displayed correctly on you customer's cc statements. if not contact rbs customer service.
