Building Your Ecommerce Store Email List

I haven't seen a thread in a while that addresses this...so I'll start one. What tactics are you using to build your email list (ecommerce only). Beyond emailing your opt-in customer list, what other (legal/legit) tactics are you using to get new names/emails on your list?

I use "More Info" and "Subscribe Newsletter", neither of which really work all that well. HOWEVER, during phone sales I let folks know we have those services and that seems to convert very well.

We have testing allowing users to opt-in when they submit a support request. For example, when they submit an email form with a question about a product or a store policy or something, they can opt-in to get on our email list. This has worked pretty well for us so far.

I'm wondering if anyone has testing getting email opt-ins from live chats?
