Hello,

I wish open an online shop. Although there are numerous shopping cart available as open source that I know, but I was kind of thinking, since this would be my first experience. So why not go with sites which offers creating custom shops and charges for the same.

I mean the site will allow to create my online shop and provide an url of the type "http://myshop.shoppingsite.com". All transaction will be handle by them. eBay is once such type but it is too well known around the world. I would prefer some other site, which will offer me more customization.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you.

Have a look at 'Amazon WebStore'. It is highly customizable. You can use your own domain name. The checkout process, however, is branded by Amazon.

Just get a fantastico host and use one of the instant fantastico installs.

gpilling, Fantastico is a script library that automates the installation of different web applications to a website. Which one of those applications fall within 'custom shop like eBay' category? What web application would you recommend in response to OP?

I am aware that Fantastico is a script library. It will autoinstall CubeCart, OSCommerce and ZenCart. The OP is looking for a hosted solution only because they are doing it for the first time. The hosted experiences like ProStores (from eBay) are more expensive than a comparable shared host with Cpanel and Fantastico. ProStores starts at $29.95 a month, whereas a shared host starts at around $4.95

The desire to use a hosted solution is the belief that it will be easier to do, but in my experience (having used Prostores and Fantastico) there is little difference between the two except that you pay more. Prostores is just not that good of software.

The OP may also wish to look at Ecwid for a more user friendly ecommerce setup.
