Merchant account problem - insight please!

I've had a brisk ecommerce site for about five years. I was partners with someone who essentially ran things while I was an absentee owner. The merchant account was in their name and long story short, they racked up some chargebacks and their account was terminated. I decided to take over the operation and boot this person out of the picture but I couldn't get a merchant account without a very high reserve because I was going through a mortgage modification that showed I was in foreclosure at the time so my credit completely tanked. My mother opened an account for me and everything was going fine, not a single chargeback, no issues. Than out of the blue they placed a 100% reserve on all transactions and started asking all types of questions about my previous partner. Now I am in a better position to obtain my own merchant account but I'm a little worried that they will link the name of the site to the other merchant accounts and close it without any warning. Is this something that they do? My name is not linked with the site in terms of the previous merchant accounts but I don't want to go through the trouble of opening one up only to have it closed. Does anyone have any suggestions as the best way for me to go about this? I don't want to change the site name as it has a very high ranking on all the search engines and I would be starting from scratch. Any suggestions or insight would be greatly appreciated!

Any updates on your situation?

My first thoughts when reading this were, do you have any documentation that backs up your story. Contracts? Email correspondence? Are you still in touch with the person? If so, could you draw up a document that explains what happened and have them sign it?

IME, credit card processors include as boilerplate in their contracts that they can terminate the contract at any time for no stated reason. This happened to me, which is how I learned about it. I had a total of five chargebacks in eight years. They wouldn't give me any reason for terminating me or even contact me. I found this exact same thing had happened to many people. Anyway, that taught me that I could lose my processor at any time for no reason. So there's that to consider.

I had bad credit because of medical bills and worried about getting another processor. A friend told me about his so I applied to them and I told them out front, "I have bad credit because of medical bills." They approved me anyway at the same rate I had at the place that terminated me. Sometimes it pays to be honest. If you apply to a processor and tell them the truth about your partner and they say no, oh well, go on to the next one. If you are honest and they say yes, you don't have to worry anymore.
