Auction software recommendations

Hi all,

I'm wondering if anyone can recommend some good auction software? A client has expressed an interested in starting an auction site. The whole thing looks like a minefield, but the two packages that seem to get recommended the most are PHPProBid and AJ auction pro.

I'm getting a headache just thinking about all the various things that need to be considered. I suppose one of the most important is, would a a client who virtually clueless about web site building, be able to effectively run this kind of program without help?

Any help or advice on the topic in general would be wonderful.

My advice (without benefit of experience in Auction sites) would be to start with an off the shelf product and learn what you can from it. Then at some point when the site is generating enough revenue, you could develop your own.
