hi - someone (in UK) ordered £500 of goods from our website - we shipped via courier to their p/pal verified address & they received/signed as confirmed by the tracking data.

less than an hour after receiving the goods a p/pal dispute was filed citing an unauthorized transaction.
p/pal then held our money for the mandatory 10 days but found in our favor & made the required credit.
however, less than 2 days later they reversed the credit stating that the buyer made a CC c/back & that our money could be held for up to 75 days.

to date we've never had a c/back go in our favor.
also correct me if i'm wrong but it seems that one can simply order something online then tell the CC company you did not authorize payment & hey presto its Christmas time again in scammerville.

anyone experience of similar or suggestions as to how we can backup our case as we are expecting the worst(again).

cheers.

Tangor, I think you are giving up a lot to give up on the EU because of one skeevy Dane, lol! I have been sending stuff to the EU since day one ten years ago. It is a good place to do business, IME.

Probably true... it was the (in part) cost of shipping that ultimately reduced my sphere of trading. (and the fact I got screwed for $434) I have nothing against the EU... I have good friends in Ireland, England, Germany, France, Spain, Norway, Denmark, Switzerland, Russia, Belgium and Romania. We have a common madness for a long dead author.

But I remain a businessman, first. These days I just K.I.S.S.

I always thought that if you deliver to the Cardholder address and have proof of that, you are protected against Chargebacks via the CC company.

I think most people do. Right up until they get told point blank by their merchant services provider that it is not a guarantee. It gives you a better chance with a chargeback, but they aren't making any promises with the address match, and there is a very small amount of trouble that they are prepared to go to on your behalf.

In the end, there is certainly no "guarantee" against a chargeback. You can have all the proof in the world, yet all the customer has to do is deny receiving it.

Sent to CC address? "Never received it. Someone must have stolen it from my door step."
Proof of delivery signature? "That's not my signature- someone must have forged it." (Besides, how many people actually give legible signatures when they sign for packages?)

I am in the process of disputing a chargeback right now, WITH a tracking number showing delivery.

The buyer is still insisting they haven't gotten it. Apparently if the CC company sides with the buyer, I'm out of the sale and the item. No recourse to the buyer; ridiculous.

... WITH a tracking number showing delivery.
The tracking number proves that the carrier delivered it somewhere, but not that the buyer received it.

I've seen "delivered" packages that ended up at neighbors houses, blew into the bushes, set on the side-deck that no one uses, or placed inside the garage. I even received a delivery once where I watched the guy take my three packages out of his truck, and leave them on the sidewalk (30 feet from my house) before driving away.

"Delivery" is a loosly-defined term with carriers.

for future reference use PayPal with seller protection - if they (PP) "verify the delivery address" then you will be covered for any chargeback(s) even if the CC company (as they usually do) favour the buyer.

i have just received results on both the chargebacks mentioned in this (my)thread.

if i had used WorldPay or other then i would have been robbed of £500.

Hi rampzoid. Do you mean you won the chargebacks?

yes S_C with PayPal i won both CB's.

i recently started using PayPal as an additional payment gateway to WorldPay.

to be honest i was rather dubious regarding their claims regarding "seller protection" considering my past CB issues with WorldPay.

hurrah - first time i've ever won not only one, but two CB's in a row - had i used WorldPay i would definitely be minus 500 notes.

anyone offer an alternative to WorldPay as some customers won't use PP?

Well done Rampzoid! That's good news.

We use Streamline and they claim to protect you against chargebacks if you can provide a signature proving goods were delivered to the card holder address. Thank goodness I haven't ever had to put this to the test. I have successfully won CB's with them in both the UK and US and they are quite helpful providing you have the documentation to support a claim.

People can talk trash about PP, but they have saved my butt. They just stopped something the other day on some sort of tip... I'm not sure what. At first I was ticked because I thought they were jacking up my order. But it turned out to be unauthorized card use. Still waiting to hear if it's just a screw up... But just the fact that they stopped something that fast is not bad.

Using PP to do int. stuff makes it so much easier. I wouldn't even want to deal with it otherwise.
