Hi,

If you have a site that has a good page rank, a good number of daily visits/pageviews, and ranks well in search engines; would you use your current site by placing a link/banner to promote a new website you started?

I think this would work good as free marketing method to give my new website some traffic from my current visitors!

Thank you,

As long as you don't overdo it. A banner on one page, or even a few pages, might be fine. Sitewide on a thousand+ pages might be something else.

On a sitewide basis I'd use an iframe and a noindex nofollow page for the banner/link just to be safe.

Excellent question.

ken_b, by "just to be safe" what are the drawbacks to doing this?

Does Google frown upon this?

I did this exact thing recently, but without the no follow or iframe, and I noticed a drop in my Google rankings. (For the established site, not new site I created.) Is there a possible correlation?

It's too early to tell, my site hasn't been indexed in Google yet, I just did this recently.
