hello and thank you in advance.

i have my website 90% of the way there in terms of design and implementation, but completely lack a provider for ecommerce.

i have been thinking to go with mal's ecommerce (waiver: not related to this in any way) due to the unobtrusive implementation that i have observed on other sites.

as someone new to web coding but not new to coding i hesitate to implement secure check-out on my own and would like to hang it over to a third party until i become more confident.

any input and recommendations are heavily appreciated.

Hi Jason.

Why not use oscommerce, this is completely free and has some great modules on there, completely customisable too, or do you mean a gateway provider?

Bek.

all,
after some thought i have decided to come back and post again.

i am not sure of the caliber on this board, but for every question i have asked, i am yet to stump the vast resources made available by those who post here.

so here it goes:

1 - is it really that difficult to code a "secure" shopping cart? i'm sure it takes some careful coding, but is it more of a liability to do it yourself and that is why one should just use a business that offers a shopping cart?

2 - with regard to liabilities. could anyone recommend a resource to read up on starting an e-commerce site (legal aspects, necessary registrations, forms etc). i know this one is a big question with probably a lot of "short" and "long" answers, but I am just looking to do things right and be protected.

any help would really be great. thank you!
