Anyone Used X-cart or LiteCommerce?

OSCommerce is not doing what I need...

I've been using OSCommerce since January, but have been having major trouble getting it to work with PayPal--even with the offcial patches. So I need to find a low budget solution. X-cart and LiteCommerce are both doable budget-wise, but I'd like to hear some feedback.

Or does anyone else have suggestions?

What I need is:

PayPal processing
manual CC processing
customizable shipping options
membership discounts

Any advice would be appreciated. I just can't seem to get OSCommerce to do what I need and their forum community has been less than helpful.

Thanks,

-- Steph

All those come with X-Cart. It's probably one of the easiest (yet very configurable) cart we've set up and I've dealt with several.

The x-cart forum (you got to have a valid license to access it) is very active & helpful.

I haven't dealt w/ LiteCommerce so I can't comment on it.

PayPal offers manual cc processing directly, so you don't need the cart to do that. There are a bunch of PayPal compatible carts in the PayPal Solutions Directory.

X-Cart is much easier to work with than osCommerce IMHO. I've stopped using osCommerce as of a 8 months ago.

Have you considered using a cart with support?

What a concept....

X-Cart does have a support system in place. The forums are a good resource but the folks at X-Cart will normally respond within 24 hours to support requests.

Well, that's some support but no substitute for a real company with a phone number and live tech support at your fingertips.

What would you suggest incrediBILL? I too am looking at carts at the moment.

Hm, depends on what type of support is needed. If it's in coding & customization, then x-cart's forum is fine. If heavy modification is needed, then we'd contact the company directly by opening a ticket, etc.

Once the cart is up & running, it should be fine - I haven't seen the cart just simply break for no unexplainable reason that we'd need an official company support.

Nevertheless, there're other choices, some are easier to set up than X-Cart.

All this talk about X-Cart. What about LiteCommerce? It was my first choice since it was claimed to be modular and faster/smaller at the core (as compared to X-Cart).

osCommerce and LiteCommerce both offer more options and a cleaner interface, however you can check also quickestore.com.

Had to put in 2cents here...

I've installed four carts only, but Jshop Server is my favorite. Previously I had used Zen Cart and Lite Commerce, but JS is rock solid and packed with features. Fairly expensive up front - but no headaches and great support.

I have used x-cart for the past year and am very happy with the results. Our shoppers are quite pleased with our designs and features. However, the x-cart software out of the box is unpleasant to the eyes and not very user friendly.

Make sure you get the software customized if you can! Overall, x-cart has been a profit hound for us!

X-cart is more difficult to operate than LiteCommerce in my opinion. However, X-cart is more function rich. Some X-cart's functions are not avalible in LiteCommerce, but you can still buy it as add-on of LiteCommerce later on. In short, if your shop is small, say less than 50 products, you shall consider LiteCommerce because it will consume you less effort to maintain it.

Thanks for all the advice. I've checked out some of the alternatives you've listed and it looks like X-cart has the best dollar value for the features it's got. My only concern (and it is a minor one) is that their subscription feature bills on the same date instead of a certain amount of time from purchase date. But, that is easily worked around and if business gets that busy, we'll no doubt have the extra $$ to have it customized. I downloaded the demo and tried customizing the templates and had no trouble getting the hang of it (their templates are nothing to write home about).

So, now I go to my boss and ask for money! That might be the hardest part!

Thanks again.

I use litecommerce, have hundreds of products and have taken over 10,000 orders without any problems.

The key feature for me was that it allows me to run the same cart off 3 different domains. i.e. it can function like Mal's or 1shoppingcart in the background. You simply replace the buy it now links.

However, it will probably cost much more in the long run than x-cart. Another problem with litecommerce is that their copyright protection often clashes with scripts on our server. Therefore unless you run a dedicated server, you may soon find yourself with incompatibility problems.

If I were to start off another shop, I would go for x-cart. However, if you have an existing shop that is highly SEOed, then you should consider litecommerce.
