Hi Guys,

I looking at ecommerce solutions currently, I have prepared a design that will be implemented using css. I have found x-cart, but am wondering if anyone has had any experience, and the strength of security and so forth.

Any comments please :)

Welcome to WebmasterWorld!

X-Cart will do fine and is secure. If you're not used to skinning carts though, you may want to try something a bit easier.

I am confident with CSS, let's see how we go!

Thanks for writing back.

It's not the CSS that caused my remark. It's that X-Cart uses a bunch of templates. Their template system is driven by Smarty templates (or was) and the pieces you need to work with are in several directories instead of just one, mixed in with files you'll never touch. Not a very straightforward setup. But once it's done it should be ok.

But may I suggest you investigate ShopSite?

thanks lorax.

it's hard to gauge the complexity of reskinning without seeing the file setup ;)

just looking in to shopsite.. i don't entirely understand the ongoing fee, an apposed to the flat fee with x-cart.. can you shed any light on this?

ShopSite is a hosted product. The host will take care of the upgrades and security patches for you. You don't actually own a copy of the core files though you can easily keep a copy of the template and if you choose to leave the host, request a database dump. You can buy your own copy of ShopSite but I believe the price is about $2000.
