The plan is to add an extra page to the check out process that asks, "Would you like to add these accessories to your order?"
I've seen this done before, but can't find any good examples tonight. Can anyone here point me to some websites that are currently upselling like this?
Thanks!
When you Go to this website you will find a million upsells. Someone should tell Daddy.
This company also ran a controversial SuperBowl ad last year.
I also agree with Raymond. When implementing this be sure to watch your conversions carefully. You may end up losing more than you gain.
I think upselling is good for everyone, but it has to be done in such a way to not distract from the person completing the sale. I have always liked the "Recommendations based on your cart" on the "home" page of the checkout process. If you have smaller pics and a brief description, it will not distract from the process and could give you a few extra dollars per sale. If the customer is not interested, then they can ignore it.
Raymond, our Alexa rating is in the 79,000's. Is that big enough for you? Probably not, but I believe we can get away with this without dropping conversions. To combat that we plan on making the most prominent piece on the page a button with text that reads, "NO THANKS, PLEASE CONTINUE!" We'll be watching conversions and if we see a drop we'll discontinue the page.
This system has worked out well for us and doesn't make people take extra actions, like clicking an extra time, unless they decide to buy the upsale item.
