Amazon Starts Selling Own-Brand Electronics [pcworld.com]

AmazonBasics currently includes accessories such as audio visual cables and blank DVDs, but other items will be added in coming months, the company said. Amazon will create its own line of consumer electronic "basics," or quality, low-cost products for consumers, it said.

AmazonBasics is already available in the U.S. and will be introduced on the company's international Web sites in coming months.

Figure out what sells best and then go have it made in China thus bypassing the middlemen. A good idea for web retailers of any size.

Yeah.. many do it.. But what about quality control and Guarantees.. If it was that easy..any one could do it.

Some of us do. Then we also wholesale to other resellers in the brick and mortar world.

If it was that easy..any one could do it.

There's no end of far-East manufacturers making unbadged goods by the million, for you to apply your own branding. A good amount of laptops are already sold that way - identical machine appearing with multiple 'names' and model numbers. Check out 'OEM' sources.

Depends who you choose! I understand your point though, there are lots of factories that expand their range by selling someone else's product, some are very easy to spot.

I'm sure amazon will do well with this idea - hopefully quality will be comparable to other brands too.
