I want to open another store with complementary products, and I've been wondering if there is any boost to traffic by using a Yahoo store as my shopping cart.
In a nutshell, my choices are:
A) my-own-domain.com with Miva Merchant (with which I am quite familiar and quite happy)
or
B) my-own-domain.com with a Yahoo Stores catalog/shopping cart
Assuming the costs are the same (their not, but close enough), does anyone have any advice?
FWIW, this will be an art site that sells products for $10 to $40.
The 3.5% is inconsequential to me (the .10/listed item/month is more of a heartburn).
My only real question is: does being in a Yahoo Store get you access to some traffic (or a headstart on good traffic) that an outside store misses?
I bought a business that had a yahoo store last year (my other sites are ecommerce, but not yahoo). The business had its own domain. We set up our own site but we have had to keep the yahoo store up because so many people kept going there even after our email notices.
As far as I can tell from traffic analysis, we never benefited by having a yahoo store.
It really limits your options for the future.
From my understanding the only difference is that with a Yahoo store you get listed in Yahoo
Shoppping.
There was some speculation when they first started charging the 3.5% commision from the Yahoo network that Y! stores would get preferential treatment in the directory. But that doesn't seem to be the case.
