Anybody tried Costco's new payment processor?

I was looking into Costco's payment processing service a while ago and it was done through NOVA. Now it looks like it's Elavon.

Has anyone tried this? Do they require the 3-digit code for the lowest rate? Do they charge fees on-the-fly or do they charge them all at the end of the month? Is there a contract? How is customer service?

Nova was renamed Elavon. Been using them for 6+ years (except for a several month break).

I don't know what 3-digit code you mean.

Fees are charged once a month.

I don't remember much of a contract, but there was no "early termination" fee years ago when we started. Haven't needed CS much, but charge back department can be hit or miss.

What's new about it? Glanced at it a couple of years ago. You had to be a Costco member to use the service. There's no Costco store around so we'd be paying membership dues purely for the processing services.

Doesn't Sams Club have something similar? We're members there (their grocery dept is excellent) but I wouldn't trust Sams/Walmart with my data. They sell a few of the same things we do.

You have to be a Costco member to apply. I don't know if there's any requirement to maintain your membership after approved with Elavon.

Also, you can always shop Costco online.

LifeinAsia, what do you mean by hit or miss with the chargeback department?

Just to clarify, the amounts you charge your customers are deposited to your account in whole and then they charge their fees at the end of the month? Are there a lot of mysterious/crap fees, or is it straightforward?

A two years ago I let my membership lapse and only realized it when my merchant account was charged a 35.00 fee ( monthly) for lack of Costco membership. I renewed the Costco card quickly and had the fee reversed.

Hit-or-miss: Sometimes they quickly pass on our rebuttal to the issuing bank (of the chargeback initiator), other times they don't saying the documentation is insufficient.

Each day's batch is deposited in whole to our bank account. All the fees are removed once a month. All fees are pretty straightforward- processing fees (per transaction), nightly batch fee, any chargeback fees.

Been using Costco/Nova for 5+ years, and can honestly say I have had no problems at all.
