Online auction giant eBay is offering its sellers the opportunity to build their own independent sites in an attempt to bolster their loyalty.

The service, Prostores, gives sellers their own web address but processes their sales through eBay's own systems.

This is Kurant's StoreSense software which eBay recently acquired. So it's competing against software like Marketworks. There is a lengthy discussion "ProStores Web Store Solution Annouced!" at the eBay Stores discussion board at eBay.

One thing which a lot of people have a negative reaction to is:
"ProStores may, in its sole discretion, and without Your consent or payment to You, place third-party advertisements on any Web page or email communication within its Service offering."

Wow! This is huge! Especially for e-commerce web developers. Many potential clients will turn to eBay without thinking and without realisation of the real value.

I see they want up to $250/month and then they still want between 0.5 and 1.5% commission on sales!
