Hi,

I was just wondering what is the latest stage where you don't allow customers to cancel their order anymore?

For example, packed their order? or after you have authorized their credit card? or settled their credit card? shipped order? etc...?

Thank you,

A customer can cancel their order anytime during the above. After the order has been shipped the customer then can still cancel the order but with only paying for the return of the unopened product and a restocking fee deducted from the return. I don't bring up any CC processing fees but make my restocking fee enough to cover the CC Fees.

You need a well written terms of service that has all the charges and procedures spelled out to when a canceled order results in a restocking fee.

This is one of the big problems that face eccommerce sites that only use dropshippers.

Think of your ecommerce as any retail store. You buy something it is not what you needed what would happen if they wouldn't take it back.

Treat your ecommerce the same way and you will be much better off the only difference is shipping charges are involved plus time spent packing products. This is what the restocking fee covers.

That's a good idea, implementing a restocking fee if a customer wants to cancel an order after the order has been shipped.

I'll add this into my terms of service policy...

What restocking fee percentage (%) do you charge if a customer cancels after the product being shipped?

Thank you,

olimits7 I use 15% plus the actual shipping cost of the order in my terms of service. I have a fixed shipping charge of 6.75 the order may have cost me 12.00 to ship so I deduct the 6.75 from the 12.00 and add 5.25 to the 15% restocking fee.
All this needs to be spelled out so when they want to know howw you determined the return you referr them to the url were it is all spelled out.

They can cancel at anytime. If the order is shipped, then they pay shipping both ways but we will gladly refund their purchase amount.

We do some custom built items, for anything that is custom built, we do not refund once the build is started.

For stock items, they can cancel anytime, if the order is shipped, they pay shipping both ways and we refund the purchase amount. We give them a 5 business days after reciept of the item to ship it back to us as well.

90% of the time when an item ships and a person wants to return it, they never send it back.
