Thoughts on Increase In-California Sales (taxable sales)

I've got an e-commerce site that is part of a business in-california, so orders shipped to California are charged sales tax. Unfortunately, a good chunk of web traffic is coming from California, and the conversion rate for California is lower than other states...presumably due to the high sales tax rate. (currently 9.25% state-wide, higher in many counties)

Any ideas on how to boost in-state sales? I was thinking of offering a 5% "sales tax relief" discount to California customers. Anyone have things they have done that helped with this?

Actually, the sales tax relief idea sounds pretty good. I've seen a lot of B&M stores offer "we pay the sales tax" weekends since the tax increase. So only a partial "tax relief" sale may make it sound like you're not trying hard enough (compared to others).

As a consumer, I'd be more likely to buy from a CA site if they were paying the sales tax for me.
